Congratulations on taking the first step. Here’s a list of things you should be aware of for your first class:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts. This allows us to meet with you to explain a little about our history and how the class operates and then pair you up with a training buddy.
New people are paired with a senior to ensure they get the best attention during the class.
Wear loose fitting long pants and a plain t-shirt. No shorts, singlet tops, or offensive markings/alcohol advertising.
You can bring a drink bottle if you wish or purchase one on site.
If you come with an open mind and a good attitude you will enjoy yourself.
We welcome you to your own martial arts journey.
Welcome to the Kung Fu School in Petone, Lower Hutt.
We are a martial arts school that is based in Roxburgh Street Petone and we service – but are not limited to – the Hutt Valley area, including Eastbourne.
The Petone Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan (South North Fist) Kung Fu school is focused on a quality martial arts education for you and your children.
If you are looking to learn a traditional martial art and join a family of people from many different walks of life, then we recommend that you come along and try a free class.
Classes focus on the traditional art and include stretching, weapons training, Kung Fu animal styles, discipline, fitness, strength training and more. Every class will be challenging, rewarding and lots of fun.
One of our biggest differences is that we are guided by decades of history and experience thanks to our Monk Cho Si, Master Quek, Tai Si Gung Lai, Si Gung and Simo O’Sullivan, all of our Sifus and the other students.
We have many locations around New Zealand and the world so if you’re traveling you can even train with your extended family.
At the Petone school, we encourage everyone – especially if you have no experience at all or have done a martial art before – to give it a go! You never know it might be that one thing that is currently missing in your life.
Please feel free to email or call with any questions and we look forward to seeing you in a class soon.
Hi thanks for taking the time to read and enquire about joining Shaolin Gao Can Mun Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu Petone (Lower Hutt). I am Scott, the Instructor (Gow Lian) for the Petone School. I encourage you to come along as you will have fun and take something useful home.
I started Nam Pai Chuan at the beginning of 2010, training under Sifu Rob Young at our Wellington (Brooklyn) Kwoon. I am still training there every Monday and Saturdays. I also try to train as much as I can in Palmerston North under our Head instructor Sifu O’Sullivan.
Nam Pai Chuan is a fantastic martial art. You will learn a wide range of techniques, such as kicking, punching, take downs, self defence, weapons, animal tehniques and much much more. It is also great for fitness and I don’t think I have ever been as fit as I am now.
I have been very lucky in the six years that I have been studying the art. I have had the opportunity to twice train under Tai Si Gung Lai when he travelled from the UK to see us all in New Zealand.
Shaolin kung fu has become a huge part of my life and one of the best parts is all the people you meet and train with. We notice that all our students come from a completely different walk of life.
At the end of 2013, I had the privilege to sit the exam for my first degree black belt. I have to be honest, it is one of the hardest tests mentally and physically I have done to date. The strange thing is, I can’t explain the rewarding feeling after it and especially when the black belt was tied around my waist. Recently in December 2017, I have sat and passed by 2nd degree black belt.
So I encourage you, come along and give it a go. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions you may have. I will be more than happy to answer any questions.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Tai Si Gung Lai, Sifu O’Sullivan And Simo O’Sullivan for letting me be a part of this fantastic martial art.
Also a big thank you to all the Sifu’s especially my Sifu Rob Young and all the other students.
