Your First Kung Fu Class
Congratulations on taking the first step. Here’s a list of things you should be aware of for your first class:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts. This allows us to meet with you to explain a little about our history and how the class operates and then pair you up with a training buddy.
New people are paired with a senior to ensure they get the best attention during the class.
Wear loose fitting long pants and a plain t-shirt. No shorts, singlet tops, or offensive markings/alcohol advertising.
You can bring a drink bottle if you wish or purchase one on site.
If you come with an open mind and a good attitude you will enjoy yourself.
We welcome you to your own martial arts journey.
Welcome to the Oranga Kung Fu School
Due to the successful growth of our other Auckland clubs the Oranga Kung Fu School was opened in October 2012. It services the following suburbs: Oranga, One Tree Hill, Onehunga, Penrose, Royal Oak and Mt Wellington.
The class is taught by Ryan Yee, an experienced Black Belt who has trained at the Remuera School since 2007. He will be assisted by students from other clubs as well so you will have a range of abilities to train with.
Oranga Instructor: Gow Lian (Instructor) Ryan Yee
I started my training in 2007 at the Remuera School under the instruction of Sifu Billington. Being Chinese my parents wanted me to do something traditional so Kung Fu was the thing. Kung Fu has become a passion and something that I quickly became heavily involved in. By involving myself in the art and the system I opened myself up to many amazing opportunities such as partaking in the national tournaments, seminars and training overseas. I have also acquired confidence and leadership skills throughout my time in the system. As a result of these opportunities through the system I have accomplished many things that would not have been possible without being a part of this system.
In 2013 I graded for my first degree black belt and I must say that still remains my greatest achievement to date as well the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. After obtaining my black belt I continued training at various Auckland Clubs to support them as a senior student should. Giving back is a well emphasised value in the system where you not only learn but pass on what you have learnt to junior students and to the next generation.
I am now the instructor of the Oranga club and I strive to give students a great experience as I guide them through their Kung Fu Journey. In my classes I wish to push students mentally and physically in order for them to succeed which is what Kung Fu is, “Success through Hard Work”.
If you are thinking of starting a martial art then come along to a class and take the first step of many in your journey.
