Your First Kung Fu Class
Congratulations on taking the first step. Here’s a list of things you should be aware of for your first class:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts. This allows us to meet with you to explain a little about our history and how the class operates and then pair you up with a training buddy.
New people are paired with a senior to ensure they get the best attention during the class.
Wear loose fitting long pants and a plain t-shirt. No shorts, singlet tops, or offensive markings/alcohol advertising.
You can bring a drink bottle if you wish or purchase one on site.
If you come with an open mind and a good attitude you will enjoy yourself.
We welcome you to your own martial arts journey.
Hello and welcome to the Kung Fu School Mt Albert!
The school opened its doors in 2018, running both children’s (ages 7 – 12) and adults’ classes (ages 13 and above). The school is based in Owairaka District School, and services the Mt Albert, Sandringham, Balmoral, New Lynn, New Windsor, Mt Roskill, Mt Eden, Kingsland, and Avondale suburbs – although all are welcome.
At the Kung Fu School Mt Albert, we aim to provide a positive and diverse environment for everyone to learn Kung Fu – no matter the level of experience in martial arts.
While benefiting from the physical benefits of training in Kung Fu (i.e., fitness, flexibility, coordination, strength, etc.), the Kung Fu School Mt Albert also encourages its students to develop the psychological and cognitive traits of a martial artist including confidence, focus, determination, mindfulness, and more!
We welcome all that are intrigued by Kung Fu to our school, and we look forward to assisting you in your journey – whatever shape or form that might be.
Hello! My name is Ludmila (Mila for short), and I’m the instructor of the Kung Fu School Mt Albert.
I started Kung Fu in 2011, and gained my black belt and started teaching in 2015.
I have a long history with martial arts, going back to primary school, which includes Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, and Wrestling and Grappling. Kung Fu is the first martial art that has retained my interest over so many years, and continues to inspire me to try new things in every class.
What I love about Kung Fu is that there is something in it for everyone, so it is very easy for all students – no matter their personality or physical ability – to find a niche and become a master of their own style. Of course, we all have to have some common ground, so we equally place emphasis on the school’s rich and well-recorded history, as well as the school’s precepts and tenets.
Kung Fu has seen me go through a variety of challenges in life – spanning from earning a PhD in Psychology to developing my career – and I give thanks to the many seniors and instructors that have encouraged and supported me in and out of the Kwoon.
It is my aim to give to my students everything that I received from Kung Fu (and more) – that is, a positive environment in which to learn Kung Fu while being encouraged and supported as you test your own limitations (and surpass them!).
If you’ve always been dying to give a martial arts a go (or have a little bit of curiosity), I deeply encourage you to try a class! Whether it be sore abs, new friends, or new-found abilities, you’re definitely bound to get something out of it!
