Your First Kung Fu Class
Congratulations on taking the first step. Here’s a list of things you should be aware of for your first class:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts. This allows us to meet with you to explain a little about our history and how the class operates and then pair you up with a training buddy.
New people are paired with a senior to ensure they get the best attention during the class.
Wear loose fitting long pants and a plain t-shirt. No shorts, singlet tops, or offensive markings/alcohol advertising.
You can bring a drink bottle if you wish or purchase one on site.
If you come with an open mind and a good attitude you will enjoy yourself.
We welcome you to your own martial arts journey.
Class Bio
Hi welcome to The Kung Fu School, Kohimarama.
The Kung Fu School has been in Auckland since 2005 and Kohimarama is the 7th school to open in the Auckland region.
We offer the opportunity to learn Shaolin Kung to the Kohimarama, Mission Bay, Orakei, St Heliers, Meadowbank, and Glendowie suburbs.
At this school Gowlian Rex Yee hopes to teach his students various kung fu techniques from basic to advanced levels. But there is more to the Kung Fu School than this, we also give students an opportunity to increase their fitness ability and stamina all in a fun relaxed environment. Another focus throughout the class is to build a sense of respect and confidence in one’s own self.
So I invite new students to come try us out. No matter how old or young you are (minimum age 7yrs), size or shape you may be. If you’re looking for a martial art where you can be challenged, grow in confidence and be in a family environment, come and have a look and a chat with us.
Instructor Bio
My journey with the Kung Fu School began in 2009 when I joined the newly opened Grey Lynn Club, the 2nd Kung Fu School to open in Auckland. In actual fact my journey may have started before then. In 2007 when my 2 sons joined my wife and I would attend class to watch their progress.
Today my 2 sons are a 1st Dan and 2nd Dan Black Belt. My oldest, Ryan, is a 2nd Dan Black Belt and is a instructor at the One Tree Hill/Oranga School. I obtained my 1st Dan in 2013 and my 2nd Dan in 2017, both times with my son Ryan.
I now have the privilege of opening Auckland’s 7th Kung Fu School in Kohimarama. I will be continuing the tradition of upholding Kung Fu School etiquette, building students’ self-esteem, confidence and skill level.
I will bring to the class intensive training mixed with patience and fun for students to enjoy at their own pace and skill level. I will rein back when I need to but I will also push when I have to.
