Kung Fu Wellington
The Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu school in Brooklyn Wellington, started in 2006 under the direction of Gow Lian (Instructor) Rob Young. The classes are varied, focusing on fitness, balance, fun, agility, discipline, commitment and the art itself.
The school attracts most of it's students through word of mouth and the website. It has a very strong children's class with the need for additional classes to cater for the numbers. The recently established adult's class is proving very popular with an ever growing number of students.
On various occasions, the school have been asked to perform and demonstrate at community events, such as Owhiro Bay fair, Brookyn Festival and Chinese New Year. This gives the students a sense of pride and of being a part of the community.

and his children
While at university during the 80's, training to become a dentist, I trained in Tae Kwon Do and continued for a few years later. I joined the Levin Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu school in 2001, training under Simo. In 2005 I started teaching the classes in Levin. When I left for Wellington, I knew that I had to start another Kung Fu school.
Two of my most rewarding achievements have been gaining my black belt and establishing the Brooklyn, Wellington school. This has been an important part of my life journey, not only for myself, but also for my students. Continual training and teaching Kung Fu seems to be my destiny and fits in well with my culture, values and beliefs. I believe there is no point in learning something if you cannot share it with others. My Sifu is so right in instilling in us, that we must all teach. Teaching helps us learn and helps others to help themselves.
One of my great privileges was being able to train with Master Quek in Malaysia on several occasions. With his passing in 2010, sadly that is no longer possible. However I will forever treasure and share those memories.
Another great privilege was to meet Master Lai and be able to spend some time with him when he visited New Zealand in 2007.
The greatest privilege though is to train under and be guided by my Simo and Sifu.
This has further reinforced my commitment and passion to teach kung fu for as long as possible. I am proud of my lineage and feel honored to be able to learn, teach and pass on the art of Shaolin Nam Pai Chuan.
